A study conducted at Duke University in the late 90s and early 2000s revealed that people suffering from depression who exercised regularly instead of taking medicines showed 95-100% improvement when compared to their non-exercising counterparts.

Researchers have noted that exercise balances serotonin and endorphin levels, it produces natural chemical compounds that support brain cell growth.Neuroscience researchers have also found that exercise increasesgalanin, a neurochemical that tames down the brain/body stress response. In other words, exercise can help the stressed as well as the depressed.

The youth of today who rely immensely on science as evidence should believe that yoga does help promote our mental health as it is backed up by research. It is high time we take the benefits of yoga on mental health seriously and take pledge to practise yoga regularly.
